The Benefits of Hydrangea Root

The Hydrangea is an ornamental and medicinal plant native to the southeastern United States and northeastern Asia. The Cherokee Indians were the first to observe that the plants roots were useful as an herbal remedy in treating urinary tract issues, prostate disorders, and kidney stones.

Hydrangea root can also be used externally to provide relief from wounds, burns and sore muscles. In 2009, researchers discovered that one of the root’s active components, halofuginone combats autoimmune disorders without impeding normal immune system function.

Hydrangea has been used for hundreds of years as a treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) the condition of suffering from enlarged or inflamed prostate glands.

It is also considered one of the best herbal remedies for treatment of pain related to kidney problems, especially kidney stones, by reducing the size of the stones and allowing them to pass painlessly.

English folklore calls hydrangea an unlucky plant for young women looking to marry. It has been said that people who allow the plant to grow near their home have cursed their daughters to a lifetime of loneliness.
